We want to be a part of your reading program!

A teacher, parent, or principal can contact the Paws to Read program via the coordinator, who will match a volunteer team with a classroom. From there, it is up to the teacher and the volunteer to set up a schedule that works for both.

Usually a team will come to the classroom for about an hour a week. Some teams work with individual children practicing sight words or high-frequency words in stories by reading aloud to the dog. Other teams work with children on fluency of reading, which helps their comprehension skills. Some teams can work in a quiet corner of the classroom, while others are more productive in a small corner of the library. The teams should always be near a teacher and/or school staff, not in an isolated area.

Our teams have gone to many local schools.
